Prescription Drugs in the Senate

After turning down a debate on S. 3 the prescription drug price "negotiation" bill, though temporary that setback may be, the Senate took up S. 1082, the Prescription Drug User Fee Amendments of 2007.

CQ Today: Amendments are expected on drug importation, the creation of a separate drug safety office, food safety and perhaps regulation of the abortion drug RU-486.

Washington Post: Senate Likely to Back Drug Reimportation
Senate vote on the vote: 63-28

CQ Today: With a Senate fight over the importation of lower-cost prescription drugs expected to subside, a battle over free speech rights is gathering. ... The Senate is expected to turn to a proposal that would restrict how prescription drugs are marketed to consumers.
