House Legislation: To Make You Think

H.Res. 33 - Rep. Paul Gillmor [R-OH]
Recognizing the thousands of Freemasons in every State in the Nation and honoring them for their many contributions to the Nation throughout its history.

H.R. 40 - Rep. John Conyers [D-MI]
To acknowledge the fundamental injustice, cruelty, brutality, and inhumanity of slavery in the United States and the 13 American colonies between 1619 and 1865 and to establish a commission to examine the institution of slavery, subsequently de jure and de facto racial and economic discrimination against African-Americans, and the impact of these forces on living African-Americans, to make recommendations to the Congress on appropriate remedies, and for other purposes.

H.R. 75 - Rep. Roscoe Bartlett [R-MD]
To recognize the birthdays of Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

H.R. 77 - Rep. Roscoe Bartlett [R-MD]- To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to change the deadline for income tax returns for calendar year taxpayers from the 15th of April to the first Monday in November.

(And of course the Tuesday after the first Monday in November is ... Election Day!)

To provide for the retention of the name of Mount McKinley.

To create a commission to develop a plan for establishing a Museum of Ideas.

To require the establishment of a national database in the National Archives to preserve records of servitude, emancipation, and post-Civil War reconstruction and to provide grants to State and local entities to establish similar local databases.

H.R. 440 - Rep. Joe Baca [D-CA]
To amend titles 10 and 14, United States Code, to provide for the use of gold in the metal content of the Medal of Honor.

H.R. 37 - Rep. Vernon Ehlers [R-MI]
To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to encourage businesses to improve math and science education at elementary and secondary schools.

H.R. 38 - Rep. Vernon Ehlers [R-MI]
To amend the Head Start Act to improve the math and science readiness of disadvantaged children.

H.R. 412 - Rep. Vernon Ehlers [R-MI]
To require an independent evaluation of distance education programs.
